The form 20P application is for applicants who hold an Alternative Teaching Certificate and are enrolled in a county-based alternative certification program and have met program requirements to convert to a one-year Provisional Alternative Teaching Certificate.
Before You Apply
To convert to a Provisional Alternative Teaching Certificate, the following requirements must be met:
Hold an Alternative Teaching Certificate for a minimum of one year
Successful completion of a county-based alternative certification program
Passed required Praxis exams
Submit a Form 25C in conjunction with the Form 20P application
Be a U.S. citizen or hold eligible documentation (see Policy 5202)
Be at least 18 years old
Be physically, mentally, and emotionally qualified
Have recommendation from the county Superintendent
Hold a bachelor’s degree with a qualifying GPA from an accredited college or university
Have completed a state-approved alternative program or pathway
Pass required West Virginia Board of Education exams for the requested certificate and endorsement area
