Instructions

In addition to the online application, please be prepared to upload other items such as:

• Acknowledgement Form.
• Resume (no more than two pages);
• Professional Biography;
• Publicity Headshot Photo. Guidelines:
  • 5″x7″
  • Minimum 1000px wide.
  • Color
  • Portrait Orientation
• Two letters of recommendation (One from Superintendent and one from a colleague, administrator, or student)
• Response questions;
• Video (2-5 minutes) of yourself teaching a lesson to students. Include YouTube link of lesson with the viewing option set to public so reviewers can view. (Teachers are responsible for taking the necessary precautions to protect student confidentiality and obtain parent consent.)

The application window for the 2027 West Virginia Teacher of the Year will open on March 2, 2026, and close at 11:59 p.m. on May 4, 2026. Superintendents are required to submit their nominees, and the West Virginia Department of Education (WVDE) will email the application directly to each county winner.
